33 of Oregon's 36 counties rely on timber payments to fund schools, libraries, law enforcement and other community sustaining resources.
Two weeks ago U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) told those 33 counties' sheriffs, librarians, teachers and other leaders that he has a higher priority - Big Oil profits.
"Greg Walden stood on the house floor and voted to close schools, shutter libraries and eliminate sheriff's patrols so that Big Oil could raise its profits," Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Meredith Wood Smith said. "When our rural communities needed him most, he voted to cut their funding. Watch the video to see how Oregon has reacted to Walden's `betrayal.' Then call him up and remind him he works for Oregon, not Big Oil."
The Democratic Party of Oregon supplied John McCain's missing Oregon Voters' Pamphlet Statement today.
With Oregon voters starting to fill out their ballots this weekend, the DPO understands how important it is that Oregonians hear from the Republican presidential nominee.
Since U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) didn't take the time to submit a statement to the Oregon Voters' Pamphlet - the first time in modern Oregon politics that a major presidential campaign has rejected the Oregon Voters' Pamphlet - the DPO will supply McCain's statement for him.
To see the statement, click here.
As an additional public service, the DPO will email the McCain statement to thousands of Oregonians across the state. The DPO will encourage Democrats to forward the email on to their friends and family and to print it out and distribute copies throughout Oregon.
The Say Anything Senator may have topped himself with his latest contradiction.
Open Left documents how Gordon Smith won't support the Responsible Plan to End The War In Iraq, a plan that Oregon's leading Democratic U.S. Senate candidates support.
No surprise as that position dovetails with Smith's five votes in 2007 to continue the war. Five votes that cancelled out Democratic U.S. Senator Ron Wyden's votes.
But, the Say Anything Senator, rather than standing by his opposition to the Responsible Plan and standing by his voting record to continue the war, takes hypocrisy to a new level by seeking credit for authoring the plan.
Open Left pinpoints the hypocrisy.
Watch the video and decide for yourself if you want Greg Walden managing the state.

Today, Talking Points Memo has exposed Smith for changing his story on fellow Republican U.S. Sen. Trent Lott's segregationist comments.
In 2002, Smith condemned Lott's words.
